Selfishness runs rampant in our streets, and people are only falling deeper into the trend than realizing the pain caused by one-sided relationships. But, alas, the world is full of this type of people. Nothing hurts as much as realizing people are not as they portray themselves. "Relationship vampires", I would like to call them. People parade in masks of joy and love but only for their gain and profit from each interaction. In fact, they are spreading like wildfire as our ocean becomes more shallow in each passing year. Fair-weather friends are certainly nothing new, out of the ordinary, or a dying breed. Unfortunately, life is not always so kind as to grant us "forever friends". If only every relationship could be so everlasting and beautiful. Each pass made by the shell-covered mantle, we reminisce upon the time we cultivated the shells and smile fondly in the midst of the memories. Dew-kissed wind blows gently through our hair while we tend to our shells, placing them neatly in pretty little jars as keepsakes to hold onto and nurture so long as they live. When meeting people along life's ocean shore we sift through the sun-dried grains seeking seashells of friendship to decorate our homes with the memories of warm, heartfelt days.
